Born in Khartoum, Sudan, I moved to Alexandria, Egypt at the age of
six. At Thirteen I moved to the United Kingdom to continue my schooling, followed by university. It is at university that
my first serious encounter with photography occurred. I joined the photographic club, and developed my creativity as a photographer,
and my practical darkroom skills
I got my first camera in 1987, as a gift from my father. From then a
passion that has grown hot and cold over the years has grown slowly into an addiction to the thrill of the Decisive Moment.
I have travelled widely, including Europe, Asia and the Americas, and have lived for an extended periods in China and mainland
Europe. Though some of my images fall under the genre of travel photography, my style is very much photojournalism and documentary.
A more real and social commentary on the places I have been and the people I have seen. Sometimes blunt, always
truthful.
The Artist on Photography
“When you frame life through the lens, you distil it into its
simple components, all the distractions of the environment, the noise of the world is removed, and what precipitates, is pure
humanity”
“A great image has less to do with the chance moment, and more
to do with acting upon it”
“The moment is greater than the movement (blur), it is irreplaceable”
“I take pictures in my head as well as with my camera, the ones
with the camera will last longer”
“Photography is about that fraction of a second that lasts an
eternity. Two seconds can add up to a lifetime of images”
“Wake up, dream, then photograph what you have seen. Don’t
wake up, photograph, and then dream of what could have been”
“Focus in the art of photography, is less to do with the lens,
and more to do with the story at hand”
“If an image speaks, it can only do so, because its language is
universal”
